Moraira does not have to be expensive says Hilary - Sat 05th September 2009

We have always found it really pays to look for bars and restaurants away from the beachfront - those used by Spaniards are particularly good value. This year we had a fantastic, great-value paella lunch in Teulada (Las Vegas Rest & Bar) and another great meal (3-course menu del dia with bread, alioli and drinks) for E7.50 each! Down at the beach the prices were still reasonable, but not so much as these places - and more aimed at the Brits too, with all the burgers and chips. We found that both Mas y Mas and Mercadona had very drinkable Cava at only about E1.45 per bottle - and for sangria, the cartons of Spanish vino tinto at 55 cents per litre was phenomenally good value! We also found a delicious piece of pork loin in Pepe La Sal for only E4.30. It was easily enough for three people and would probably have cost about £12 at home. Hilary Browning
